January 28 Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Class This program is designed to be an introductory course to meet the boating education needs of all recreational boaters. This course is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and meets all qualifications for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Safe Boater ID card which is required for all boaters born after January 1, 1988 who operate vessels on Florida waters. Students who complete this program will earn an official boating education certificate. Additionally, many insurance companies offer discounts of 5% - 10% for boaters who successfully complete the course and pass the test. January 28 Destin's Bayou, Bay & Back 5K Run/Walk, 10K & Half Marathon sponsored by Shoreline Church Join Biggest Loser Season 8 winner Danny Cahill, title sponsor Shoreline Church, and the Destin Area Sports Commission, during the 2nd Destin’s Bayou, Bay & Back 5K Run/Walk, 10K & Half Marathon. It begins at Clement Taylor Park, 131 Calhoun Ave., in Destin, at 7:30 a.m., rain or shine. Awards will be presented to the overall winners, male and female, as well as to winners in multiple age categories. The half marathon, new to the event this year, showcases the Choctawhatchee Bay, Destin Harbor, and East Pass, as its course leads runners through Destin, along a 4-mile undeveloped stretch of Okaloosa Island, and back.
